1999 Pichon Lalande Pauillac
MINERAL DRIVEN
Amongst the flight of 7 vintages of Pichon Lalande, this seemed to have a different character. It was unsettling at first but then I understood why it was different. Unlike the rest, this vintage has Merlot as its majority blend with 47%!
You can smell the minerality right off the bat, accompanied by red fruits, raspberry, and spice. The palate was not as fruity as the others, more mineral driven. Acidity was slightly higher but balanced quite well by the silky tannins. Quite different!
