2000 Chateau Batailley Pauillac

Coming from a great Bordeaux vintage, I would normally expect a fruity and chunky wine. That was my experience with many 2000 vintages, but normally confined to the top growth.
This fifth growth estate gave me a surprise. Nose was already very toned down, I only managed to sniff very elegant fruits, plus very slight smoke. Palate was also surprising; no big fruits but really mellow, elegant and full of great finesse! The only weakness was a slightly elevated acidity.
