2000 Chateau Rayas Chateauneuf du Pape Reserve
Rayas rightfully is the king of Chateauneuf du Pape, along with Henri Bonneau’s Celestins, they’re the two kingpin of CDP. You have to try very hard to find a disappointing Rayas. 2000 is an excellent vintage for CDP. Aroma of dense black tea, spice cake and dried fruits. Content was firmly chauvinistic, big and bold, very intense wine. Perhaps a bit too early to pop open this bottle, I will age it for another two decades to let it mellow down a bit.
