2000 Jean Louis Chave Hermitage Blanc
This bottle put Remoissenet’s Bienvenue Batard Montrachet 1998 served next to this Chave white to shame. I hardly drink Northern Rhone white, as I never really enjoy the blend of Marsanne and Roussane from other winemakers as they are always too rich and big in expression, until I hit this bottle tonight with a very different expression of the grape blend. The rich, intense and opulent style suits me, with very rounded buttery taste, plus very soft texture, makes this wine a rich mouthcoating wine but none of the rough edges of other winemakers’ blend of Marsanne and Roussane. Well, Chave is Chave isn’t it?
