2001 Chateau Gruaud Larose Saint Julien
MEATY AND BEEFY
2001 was a weird vintage, producing the best Pomerol vintage, along with uneven quality amongst other appellation. Perhaps it was also shadowed by 2000.
This Gruaud Larose reminded me of the 1986, almost a mold. Nose was with light berries and some fine oaks. It was the palate that resembled 86, bigger than just big, it had the unique style of meaty and beefy, along with extraordinary bright acidity. The fruits seemed to be subdued, perhaps at 16 years old it still needed time to surface.
