2004 Leeuwin Estate Art Series Chardonnay
THREAT
If I’m a burgundy winemaker, I’d feel threatened that I maybe overrun by Australian winemakers in the next 50 years or so. This Leeuwin Estate Chardonnay was served blind to me, although I was very affirmative that it’s not a white burgundy, it still took me by surprise that it came from the New World down under! Nose was definitive non burg style of strong chlorine, butter and soapy. Surprisingly good depth and nice complexity with obvious over oaked style. The New World is catching up fast!
