2009 Valandraud St Emilion 1er Grand Cru Classe
BAD BOY
This chateau is owned by Jean Luc Thunevin, known as the bad boy of Saint Emilion. Why? In 2002, he covered 2 hectares of vineyards with plastic sheets to avoid damage from rain before harvest. These grapes were downgraded to table wine. Good thing 2009 is safe!
First whiff was like walking through a forest filled with mushrooms and oak, as well as black berries and hints of licorice. The palate had ripe black fruits, woody and bold tannins, but balanced well with good acidity. More years to age!
