2011 Chateau Laroque St Emilion Grand Cru Classe
LIMESTONE EFFECT
Was sitting on the table with the winemaker, of which I learned something new tonight. This wine was 80% Merlot, but grown on limestone, and the consequence was that the wine possessed obvious green notes. First time I learned such character!
Nose of slight greenness and fruitiness, extremely dry. Palate was similar, very green, weak, lacked fruits.
My biggest concern was how to really differentiate between left and right bank if right bank Merlot are grown on limestone?
