2011 Guffens Heynen Pouilly Fuisse Les Hauts des Croux
Home alone tonight, so I made my own buckwheat Aglio Olio pasta and opened a bottle of white burgundy to go along with it. We have been dealing with Guffens-Heynen for years, better known as Verget for his production, so we know the quality has to be decent. However, this is of exceptional quality, probably the best Pouilly-Fuisse that I have come across. Bouquet was of smokey character, mingled with some ripe apple notes and fruit driven aroma. Content was where it really showed off, with piercing acidity, full of freshness and really great balance of fruits and acidity. I must confess this quality was beyond my expectation, very respectable!
