2012 Artadi Vina El Pison Rioja Spain
Artadi is a well known name from Spain that produces one of the finest wine in Spain, the vineyard of El Pison is composed of 75 year old vines. Using of a blend of Tempranillo and Tinto Fino grape varietal, the wine is very harmonious. Bouquet of surprisingly skinny, thin fruits along with a hint of green stalkiness. A sip and I must confess the finesse is stunning, with obvious vanilla employed in the aging of the wine, surprisingly, Artadi preferred French oak instead of American oak, which is not typical for Rioja winemakers. I decanted the wines for 3 hours, and compared to the first sip, it has grown up in terms of taste; no longer felt skinny, it’s chunky and fruity, with great elegance and a superb touch of finesse. The length is stunning while the fruit penetration on the palate is deep and piercing, which gives me a long lingering effect that the wine is well made like a well tailored suit.
