2012 Fontaine Gagnard Criots Batard Montrachet Grand Cru
Paired this wine with traditional Thai seafood dishes, surprisingly it went together hand in hand. Upon a whiff, the bouquet was a bit muted (perhaps due to the young age and chilled effect), although it opened up with smoke and then later orange zest and slight butter. Palette wise it was very signature Fontaine Gagnard CBM style, very soft texture yet masculine and bold. Loads of layered complexity, something like softness along with orange zest first, then followed by very mild butter melting in the mouth, cascading down to power and boldness. It didn’t interfere with the spice of the Thai food, nor was it overwhelmed by the spice either, both went along in harmony.
