2014 Clavelier Gevrey Chambertin
I have tasted this wine twice; once during a tasting with colleagues and the wine was not decanted. Tonight I tasted the wine second time, with proper decanting in a decanter for about an hour. I must confess the difference was huge! The un decanted wine tasted harsh and rough. The properly decanted wine gave me a lasting impression that it was very mellow and feminine, almost like an unadulterated Bonnes Mares produced by Clavelier. However, don’t get me wrong, the quality level was definitely not at Bonnes Mares level, for a village quality, it surpassed my expectation with the feminine quality much better than similarly produced Gevrey Chambertin by other producers. The price of wines from Gevrey Chambertin has shot through the roof due to the ultra expensive land prices there, thus selling price also going beyond reasonable. If you want a glimpse of how a Gevrey Chambertin taste like without forking out too much, this label would be my choice of recommendation.
