2016 Vivaltus Ribera del Duero Spain
A Spanish wine from Ribera del Duero, the location of the vineyard could not be better, they are situated very close to the famed Pingus and Vega Sicilia. The vines averages 80 years, with the wine consisting of a blend of 97% Tempranillo, 3% Merlot and Cabernet Sauvignon. Owned by Yllera family and has been producing wines for more than six generations. Many wine critics gave it a highly acclaimed score. The bottle for my tasting came in a single wooden case, very impressive, only winemakers who pride their wines will do this. Wine was wax capsuled too. I had a sip before decanting it. Bouquet of stewed fruits. Content was ultra thick and compact juice, I immediately suspect this wine is made to age for at least 50 years, and will easily last 100 years. Thus I decided to decant it for almost 4 hours before taking a second evaluation. Not much has changed, it’s still a jumbo wine by any standard, but has mellowed down to be much rounder and mellow, although it’s still tannic. The wine is definitely impressive for it’s price tag, and definitely worth buying it to age.
