2017 Paul Pillot Chassagne Montrachet Vielles Vignes
Vielles Vignes means wines produced from old vines. From my research, this wine was produced from a plot of 40+ years old Pinot Noir vines grown from Les Grandes Terres (on the Santenay side of the commune). I decanted it only for 30 mins and that was obviously insufficient. Content was full of surprises for me. Firstly, it was really soft on the entry. Next, the body was plummy, tasted as if the wine was produced from very thick grapes. Finally, I didn’t detect the tannins on my first glass of wine, but the tannins revealed itself on the remaining half bottle, very grippy. I was certain you can cellar this wine for 5 years easily to benefit from the resolved tannins, and you can really enjoy this wine over many years. Frankly, this wine was with exceptional value.
