2018 San Lorenzo Antares Montepulciano d’Abruzzo
Collime Teramane
In my view, I have never looked pass Brunello de Montalcino when it comes to Italian wine even though Montepulciano is also very near Montalcino. You may say I’m attas, perhaps it was a trip in 2007 that I made to Tuscany that the locals gave me the impression nothing great came out of Montepulciano. As such, I never bothered with it until I have to taste a bottle and write this tasting notes. I had a reputable bottle of St Emilion 2016 drinking right next to this bottle (I didn’t want to mention names here), thinking this Bordeaux bottle would easily kick ass; To my shock, my first sip till the last, the Montepulciano kept an upper hand no matter what! The kind of youthful fruit, blackberry and ripe dark cherry notes coming from this Antares was superb, the fruits were bright and very cheerful, and it kept the St Emilion bottle right in the dark!
