2019 Monte Zovo Valpolicella Ripasso DOC Superiore
Coming from Valpolicella, viticultural zone of Veneto, Italy, Ripasso is sometimes acknowledged as a baby Amarone. The wine needed lesser time to age and more readily drinkable compared to an Amarone, and it possessed a lot of Amarone’s character, thus the symbolic resemblance. Bouquet is of lighter notes of leather, plum and violet. This Ripasso exhibits silky and velvety textures, with obvious notes of vanilla and chocolate as they age in oak, it also possessed a lot of cherry notes and youthful characters. It’s a much-reduced version of Amarone in my opinion, and very approachable drinking it now. Suggest going with some light food like duck, it may also pair well with Chinese style roast pork due to it’s slight sweetness.
