2019 Philippe Colin Chassagne Monrachet 1er Cru La Maltroie
I have previously reported La Maltroie here (Philippe Colin Chassagne Montrachet Les Vergers 1er Cru 2019 versus Chassagne Montrachet La Maltrioe 1er Cru 2019 Fine Wines Singapore). I re tasted La Maltroie again and I had a very different opinion on my 2nd bottle, thus subsequently I wanted to taste it against a top Chablis 1er Cru. I find the balance of La Maltroie extremely beautiful, it may not shout nor yell, but it presented itself with very cool balance of fruit and acidity, it really reminded me of Jean Marc Pillot’s La Cailleret (notes: Jean Marc Pillot Chassagne Montrachet Les Caillerets 2017 Fine Wines Singapore) with very clean and balanced characters. Jean Dauvissat Montmains is one of my favorites too, you can find the tasting notes here: Jean Dauvissat Montmains 1er Cru Chablis 2018 Fine Wines Singapore. Tonight tasting, La Maltroie’s pure and unadulterated characters touched my heart although Montmains won with greater flavor. Really enjoyed the side by side comparison, which gives the wines a chance to speak to consumers when they’re fielded next to strong contenders.
