2019 Pierre Amiot Et Fils Gevrey Chambertin Premier Cru Les Combottes

This 2019 will be the last vintage of Domaine Pierre Amiot as 2020 the brother and siste will split and the father retire as well. We at Fine Wines will continue to support the sister which will be called Domaine Amiot et Fils from 2020 onwards. As 2019 is a great vintage, the allocation is very limited (this seems to be a systemic problem with any burgundy winemaker). I have previously mentioned this plot is nested around many Grand Cru plot, quality is assured (Domaine Pierre Amiot Les Combottes 1er Cru Gevrey Chambertin 2018 - Fine Wines SG). Upon uncorking, a sip and I can feel that this vintage is completely different from past vintages, vastly different! The only factor remaining constant is the bouquet remained slightly muted with some earthy notes, typical of a Gevrey Chambertin style. A sip and I was very surprised with the ultra-soft and feminine character as past vintages are normally much rougher with fine tannins, whereas this vintage has completely no such tannins lurking around, I had a glass and found the content really engaging, lively and addictive. I decanted half a bottle for 1.5 hours as I’m not confident of decanting the whole bottle as I did not detect the harsh tannins, and I’m correct, the decanting did not improve the content, in fact, it tasted much better straight from the bottle.
