Bouchard 1er Cru Beaune du Chateau 2019 vs Lange Three Hills Cuvee 2021
Bouchard has been producing this wine since 1970. Beaune du Chateau is a blend of Pinot Noir that comes from 17 Beaune Premier Cru vineyards. A whiff and I’m assured of quality production with dark cherries blended with some fragrant floral and spicy notes. A sip and it’s a definitive wine that belongs to the Premier Cru category; the finesse and elegance stood tall, very refined and silky smooth; the main point is the long finishing of this wine. Lange Three Hills Cuvee Pinot Noir fruits were picked from their established vineyards of Dundee Hills, Freedom Hill and Yamhill vinyards, the blend is slightly more elegant than the Lange Reserve I reviewed a few days ago. The wine was bright and very forward with its fruit, it tried to put up a fight with Bouchard with its rather powerful fruits, however, the finesse and elegance of Bouchard, especially the long finishing, still maintained an upper hand over Three Hills Cuvee. It’s no doubt the French style of elegance cannot be suppressed by powerful fruits from the New World alone, it will take a lot more elements to wreak havoc on the Old World style.
