Chateau Talbot Saint Julien 1943 versus Chateau Palmer Margaux 1943
Can you imagine, during WWII while bullets were flying over these French workers picking grapes, and they were still able to produce these two bottles of wines? We have to salute to the French winemakers, without their dedication, I would not have a chance to taste these two bottles of fabulous wines! Both wines were served blind. Bouquet on the Talbot was funky and aged, while for Palmer there’s a slight nose of minty and menthol. The first 5 minutes of Talbot was light and lively, but then extremely dry, and the wine quickly faded out after a while, showing an end of life. Palmer was the more exciting one, with very good structure, and I feel a lot of merlot in it, the wine tasted very age, but it’s still very drinkable. I guessed Talbot in the 40s while Palmer in the 50s. Not a bad attempt.
