I’m sure Dom Perignon needs no introduction, as it’s one of the best house champagnes you can find out there, as I find Dom Perignon being able to maintain it’s quality despite a huge production of almost 6 million bottles year-in, year-out is stunning.
With 36 guests attending the Ao Yun masterclass, we put our agency wine St Reol 2012 to test as well (tasted non blind), as it’s a great champagne in my opinion to compete against Dom Perignon, I have written St Reol 2012 in the past here.
I’d let the attendees speak of their experience as majority voted that St Reol performed better than Dom Perignon.
A customer was so in love with St Reol that he picked up a dozen bottles on the spot. Most guests have no short of praises for this St Reol. St Reol being at the fraction of the price of Dom Perignon, coming from the same region, I don’t see why one needs to waste money over Dom Perignon unless it’s a gift for some special occasions. I’d be happy to field this pair of showdown if anyone is willing to conduct a blind tasting champagne drinking session, as blind tasting is the fairest way to compare quality.
Not difficult to see why because d’Ambonnay is a very well-known Grand Cru village in champagne, there are many well-known champagne houses from d’Ambonnay, e.g. Krug, Duval Leroy, Mumm, Piper Heidsieck, Pol Roger, Roederer...
and here we have a Superior Alternative to Dom Perignon for Less!
