The 2020 Aegerter Beaune 1er Cru Les Grèves—sourced from Beaune’s largest and emblematic Premier Cru climat, rooted in clay-limestone soils and named for its friable, gravel-like terrain—is crafted from hand-harvested, destemmed Pinot Noir, given a brief cold maceration and vinified in stainless steel before 10–12 months’ élevage in oak. It shows an intense garnet hue with ruby reflections and opens with a concentrated bouquet of ripe red and black fruits, roasted strawberries, crème de cassis, sweet spice, and herbal hints of thyme and savory. The palate is broad, dense, and enveloping, driven by intense tannins and a long, spice-laced finish. Its depth and structure make it an excellent match for richly textured, rosy meats such as roast pigeon with peas and jus, or pink duck breast with crisp skin and roasted white asparagus.
