Lobenberg - 97+ Points

Bonneveau lies entirely on granite soils atop the plateau, very similar to Hermitage and yields at Bonneveau were just 25 hectoliters per hectare. They were so low because part of the young replanted vines produced almost no fruit due to drought stress. The reduced sulfur use and the absence of full lees at this barrel-sample stage result in a much more focused and clearly defined wine. Aromas of cherry and redcurrant, joined by cranberry, more cherry, rose petals, and orange zest. Everything is cleanly shaped, with precise edges and contours.

Nothing overwhelms you with force — instead, the wine flows across the nose almost like a Gevrey-Chambertin, combining high elegance with tremendous inner tension. I am deeply impressed by this Bonneveau. The palate maintains the same focus: perfectly defined structure on both sides, with the center driving straight ahead in beautifully pure, linear cherry fruit. Redcurrant, cranberry, salt, white pepper, chili, and allspice follow. The finish holds for over two minutes — not massive or brutal, but extremely elegant. A Syrah in a distinctly Burgundian expression, yet with the intense inner tension of northern Rhône Syrah. No cooked notes whatsoever. It’s hard to believe 2022 was so hot and dry — in fact, it feels like a perfect year. A superbly defined, stylish, and refined Saint-Joseph with firm yet silky tannins, remaining juicy and graceful throughout. A wine of pure pleasure.

Jeb Dunnuck - 95 Points
Darker fruits, blackberries, graphite, liquid violets, leather, and crushed stone notes all emerge from the 2022 Saint Joseph Lieu-Dit Bonneveau, a site not far from Tournon. Concentrated and focused on the palate, with fine tannins and beautiful overall balance, this elegant Saint Joseph will benefit from short-term cellaring and drink well for a decade.
