1981 Chateau Rouget Pomerol
Chateau Rouget has one of the longest histories in Pomerol. The vineyards appear to have been planted by the ancient Romans at one point. Back in the 1700s, Chateau Rouget has great reputation, it was considered to be one of the top five wines of the entire Pomerol appellation. Planted to 85% Merlot and 15% Cabernet Franc, surprisingly aged very well. 1981 is a great Pomerol vintage, I have tasted many 1981 Pomerol wines, and this Rouget 1981 is worth having attention. Bouquet of very aged and funky notes, as well as extremely smoky aroma. A sip and I really think it’s easily one of the best 1981 Pomerol I’ve ever had, with very smooth and mellow taste, and with a great lingering after taste.
