Wine by Bok: 9.25/10 stars
This 2023 Sancerre Blanc Silex is made from 100 percent Sauvignon Blanc grown on flint rich soils, which explains its striking smoky and mineral character. The nose opens with flinty smoke and zesty lemon juice aromas, followed by a palate that is sharp, lively, and wonderfully acidic. There is a subtle salty note that adds complexity and lift, giving the wine excellent purity and energy. This vintage also marks the domaine’s first fully certified organic release and represents a clear step up in quality from previous bottlings.
It is vibrant, focused, and confidently expressive of its terroir, making it one of the most exciting Sancerre discoveries we have tasted recently. Perfect For: Lovers of precise, mineral Sauvignon Blanc, seafood pairings, and drinkers who appreciate terroir driven whites with real tension. (01/26)
Sancerre Cuvée Silex 2023 from Domaine Serge Laloue is the estate’s top unoaked expression, now crafted by Christine, daughter of the late Frank Laloue. Sourced from vines over 30 years old, it delivers impressive concentration and a refined, textural palate while remaining fresh and flinty. Brimming with energy and minerality, it shows delicate lime-leaf notes and a long, classic finish. The 2023 vintage also marks the domaine’s first year of organic certification—an impressive achievement given the Loire’s challenging, unpredictable climate.
