2000 Chateau Gloria Saint Julien Cru Bourgeois
Just don’t take drinking cue from cellar tracker, three drinkers only rated the wine 89.8 points which I vigorously disagreed. I bet if this bottle is fielded blind amongst some other classified growth Bordeaux wines, the scores will skyrocket. I don’t hide my feeling that I think Chateau Gloria is one of the best Cru Bourgeois you can get from Bordeaux, of which I think it can easily beat the more famed Sociando Mallet. Coming from a stunning vintage of 2000, I did not hesitate to decant it for 3 hours, and my first sip at 3 hours mark was that, it wasn’t sufficient decanting. I was right, it took 4.5 hours to really open up as my last glass was stunningly superb. Very typical Saint Julien style but I do want to skip most of the tasting notes, I just highlight the important ones; the bouquet was mainly dark fruits. Content was stunning, the style morphed closer to Cos d’Estournel from St Estephe, as moderately heavy vanilla, along with a touch of mocha and latte showed off it’s true elegance. Highly recommended, this label is great value for money.
